A Look Back - Part 2

Here are a few more I shot over the last month or two . . .

An early clue to a new direction?

 A trip to the past?
(Key word: "trip")

I shot this one two weekends ago after we
had gotten some snow.  This guy was ready
for anything: pickup truck with a plow -
and a boat on the back.  He actually put his boat in
and then cruised down the river.

What I Saw - 1-30-12

A Look Back - Part 1

Here are a few things I shot about a month ago but didn't get around to posting.  I have some other recent ones that I'll be posting over the next few days.

Something's burning - down by the tracks
at Frank Sahd Salvage Center
(December 2011).

Speaking of Sahd Salvage, here's a door on a train car
sitting on the tracks near Florence and Barber Streets.
(If I'm not mistaken, the tracks are owned by Sahd.)
It's impressive how complex these types of doors are
and how well-built the train cars are.

But apparently they're not built well enough
to prevent them from being infiltrated by someone
with a giant sardine can key.
Seriously, though, I don't know why this car is like
this or why it's permitted to sit facing Barber Street
where a curious child might be tempted to investigate.
I'm not an attorney, but I believe the condition and location
of this car might fit the description of a potential
"attractive nuisance" as defined HERE.

What I Saw - 1-24-12

 New bench at River Park:
Just add graffiti.

And of course, I couldn't NOT take yet
another pic of the old bridge.

Random Thoughts - 1-24-12

This past Saturday, the managing editor of a student newspaper erroneously "tweeted" that Joe Paterno had died, although that was not the case at that time.  Incredibly, several news organizations - including CBSSports.com, People.com, and the Huffington Post picked up the story and, without verification, reported it as fact.  (Go HERE for the story.)

CBSSports.com said the mistake "was the result of a failure to verify the original report.  CBSSports.com holds itself to high journalistic standards, and in this circumstance tonight, we fell well short of those expectations."

In my opinion, you can't say you hold yourself to high standards if you admit you fall "well short" of those standards, especially on a story of this magnitude.

And folks wonder how those internet rumors get started.

Actually, the whole Penn State debacle reminds me of parts of Frank Zappa's song "More Trouble Every Day":
All that phony stuff on sports
And all the unconfirmed reports . . .
