What I Saw- Wednesday, September, 21, 2011

 Someone completely girdled this young
tree at River Park.  Of course, an animal
might have done it, but it looks more like
vandalism.  Whatever the case, it's a goner.

I finally got a shot (albeit a distant one) of
this great blue heron I've been stalking for
the last few days.  I'm still trying for a close-up,
but so far he has "out-clevered" me.

What I Saw - Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Since no one cleared the remaining pile of mud
at the River Park boat ramp,
this guy finally did it himself.
He gets the award for
Most Ingenious Use of a Jet-ski.

What I Saw - Monday, September 19, 2011

This grasshopper made a leap of faith
and landed in a puddle.

I know I should let nature take its course,
but I had to rescue the hapless fellow, nonetheless.
A bead of water clung to one antenna.
For the record, he didn't spit any tobacco.
(The color differences in the pics are due
to my using two cameras.)

The canoe guy has hoisted the Jolly Roger
at his business.  Either he's been listening
to Emerson, Lake & Palmer (the song "Pirates"),
or he's a Pittsburgh fan - or maybe he really
does fancy himself to be a pirate.
Anchored in an indigo, moonlit bay,
Gold-eyed 'round fires, the sea thieves lay;
Morning: white shells and a pipe of clay,
As the wind hid their footprints
They were far, far away . . .
