What's Wrong with This Picture?

"Always park in the direction traffic moves."

I guess the QRS driver missed that part.

The Cat in the Hat

A day like today, with its trickling rain and tangible dreariness, reminds me of the Dr. Seuss book, The Cat in the Hat, I read when I attended Park Elementary.  For some reason that book has always disturbed me, maybe because the mother abandons the kids, leaving them in the house on a dreary, rainy day, and a demented anthropomorphic cat walks in and does all sorts of strange things.  I realize the cat is a metaphor for something - imagination, childhood, whatever - but he's still pretty creepy, largely due to his inscrutability and puzzling behavior.  You never know what he's capable of.  Yes, I know the character is a favorite of teachers trying to promote literacy, but that is one weird book.  Besides, don't we warn kids not to let strangers into the house?  And what's stranger than a giant cat who commits a home invasion and disappears right before Mom gets back?
