What I Saw - July 20, 2011

As usual, I took a look at River Park . . .

I saw a sign for a falcon watch,

a sign for a life jacket zone,

and a sign of the times -

these two surveillance cameras.
There's an excellent article about such cameras

who is monitoring these cameras ??????????

Cole said...

I, too, would like to know the answer to that question.

My best guess would be that the cameras are directly linked to the borough office/police department. Lets hope they assist in the apprehension of those persons responsible for vandalizing the bridge and the new lights. Too bad it has to come to this, but what else can be done?

as i've said in the past - this is NOT Harrisburg or Philly or even New York - we did NOT need these cameras. for this admin - it's ALL ABOUT CONTROL.....and if you haven't figured that out yet - i guess there's no hope. on the other hand, the yaxpayers in this town MUST GET IT TOGETHER and attend COUNCIL MTGS AND MAKE COUNCIL AND BORO MANAGER ACCOUNTABLE !!!!!!! this is OUR money they're wasting.

council mtg july 11, resident asked if mgmt just got a 3 % raise. they said yes they did BUT THEY DIDN'T TELL YOU THAT THIS WAS THEIR 3RD OR 4TH RAISE OR EVEN 5TH IN THE LAST 4 YEARS.they count on somebody forgetting that.
YES - I WANT TO KNOW WHO IS MONITORING THESE CAMERAS ???? WHO HAS ACCESS TO ALL THESE CAMERAS AND RECORDINGS ??????????? THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY.

I wonder if any of the footage from the cameras has aided in apprehending anyone.

Yes, it IS about control and maybe even a little voyeurism. Whoever is monitoring the cameras can take a look around town whenever they're bored - no probable cause required. We've all become a part of one big reality show, but we don't who the audience is.

I agree that our borough council needs to be held more accountable. I know of a transfer of public property to a private business that occurred several years ago, and the borough even refurbished the property at taxpayer expense to the tune of several thousand dollars. I have reason to believe that money was never paid back. If I find I'm wrong about this, I'll issue apologies to everyone involved and publish a retraction.

I also wonder why, in this bad economy, management would accept yet another pay raise, especially when our taxes are some of the highest around, and many residents have been forced to take pay cuts or freezes or have lost their jobs altogether. Sounds like simple greed to me, or arrogance, or both. It really casts council members in a bad light, but apparently they're not concerned about pubic perception.

I believe that citizens should have access to any information garnered from those surveillance cameras, since - as far as I know - we paid for them. At the very least, we should know who is watching.

I Don;t know anything about the boro and transferring public prop to a private businbess. i do know thatcouncil and mrg and mayor are ALL arrogant and think that they are above ALL us taxpayers and the law. they do what they want and no one seems to have the gahunas to stop them.
my question is WHO is watching ????????????? invasion of privacy ! illegal

i believe council was asked that question - about bad economy and told them they would say because its budgeted....council does NOT care that we have the highest taxes around. they do NOT care residents are losing their homes. they do NOT care that residents who lived here for 50 or more yrs are moving out-they do NOT care at all about any taxpayers. what will it take ? look at turkey hill - they're lucky if they get 50 or 100 visitors-where's the THOUSANDS ???
again, mgmt, council do NOT listen it the people who elected them.

if only the average joe would realize that yes, we should attend council mtgs and yes, we can force change, demand accountability.....last council mtg had some upset citizens complaining about the NEW fence ordinance - go to the next mtg, demand they rescind it - some council members even stated that - it does NOT make sense at all....after all WHO IS GOING TO MOW OR PULL WEEDS IN THE 2 FT AREA - no one.

Cole said...

I haven't attended council meetings for a long time, but I will have to start going again.

Anonymous said...

thanks ! that would be great ! and if i attend and another resident and a friend well, pretty soon you have a nice group of concerned, interested residents and taxpayers ! see you there !!!!

Cole said...

OK, it's a date, or should I say "appointment"? The next Borough Council meeting is August 8.

Anonymous said...

thanks, your on !!! it's a date or an appointment - see you there ! any more interested taxpaying residents wanting to attend council mtg of mon august 8 at 7 pm at the boro offices at 308 locust st. i hope to see some of you there !!!!!!!

The cameras are viewed in the police department by the dispatchers or a police officer if needed.

Anonymous said...

are you SURE ???
have you seen this ???

Anonymous said...

EXACTLY WHO ALL HAS THE ABILITY/AUHTORITY/CLEARANCE TO MONITOR THESE CAMERAS ????

Anonymous said...

Yes, and Yes. But I do not know if someone is logging on from outside the police station. But like I stated they are viewed in the police station.

Anonymous said...

sorry, i thought this was a free country-not the case when the citizens are being surveilled 24/7.our crime rate, vandalism rates are not like they are in baltimore, etc. and what about shootings, rapes, kidnapping????i didn't think so....excuses to surveil.CONTROL-that's what it's ALL about.
how long will it take for the citizens of this boro to WAKE UP and get involved-attend one mtg a month and listen to the bs-demand accountability.

to post at 9:04 - what does that mean ???????
do i sense LAWSUIT ????

Anonymous said...

this is positively UNACCEPTABLE....really ??
this is scary....

Cole said...

The comment at 9:04 does imply that it's possible to log on from outside the police station. I wonder if that's what the commenter meant to suggest.

Anonymous said...

if that it was he was trying to suggest - wow - it's even worse than i thought...now are YOU going to attend council mtgs or are you going to just let this sh-- happen

Anonymous said...

wow - scary....really ??? what does this mean ???

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

To the last commment. I heard "0" comments were made about this.

this boro really needs someone who can and will ask questions and demand answers.......
our council are ELECTED officials - if they can't or won't act accordingly to the majority of residents who voted for them. then they MUST go. WE, THE TAXPAYERS ARE COUNCILS BOSSES......we should demand, insist on answers....
half of council NEVER speaks a word.
